Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Should I take this course if I scored 350+ in other areas?

This course is aimed to help you maintain a previously successful score while improving a weaker area. Over the years teaching OET, I have seen how candidates who focus exclusively on one area of weakness are at risk of lower performance in another area. The OET is comprehensive and focuses on four common skills, listening, reading, writing, and speaking. OET Ready will help you be a viable candidate for your test in each subtest.

Should I just focus on practice tests?

While experience with practice tests is important for understanding the tasks and pressures of test day, it does not replace time spent building the sub-skills, eg. analysing, identifying bias, understanding the question focus, paraphrasing. The OET Ready sessions have been prepared based on OET Education recommendation and lesson planning as well as years of classroom experience.
OET candidates who achieve a B are those who have reached a level of IELTS 7.5 or CEFR C1+ in all skill areas in addition to experience with the test questions. OET Ready gives you both test question practice and practice in the skills you need.

How do I benefit from in-person sessions?

The sessions in OET Ready progress in difficulty of language and skill. Through attending sessions, accuracy and speed increase. Interacting with a friendly and supportive tutor, leads to improved speaking, pronunciation, intonation and intelligibility. Over six sessions, you will get emotional support too through email, which is essential for staying motivated and the confidence in your strategy on test day.

What kind of assessment is there?

You'll complete a skills assessment at the start to identify strengths and weaknesses. This FORMATIVE assessment is different to the information you get from doing a mock test. Your answers provide a guide to your current strengths and weaknesses in the core subskills for OET.

This helps us identify precisely where you need work in terms of skills which you can work on and ensure you get the right practice material between sessions. Each session will involve a mixture of challenges, from doing a quiz, to explaining your reasons to doing an actual OET test question.

In between sessions, you'll work with OET-specific and frequently used vocabulary to ensure that you maintain a rich and varied vocabulary. We use a free application, Brainscape, to help you review and keep track of your vocabulary. You can use Brainscape on your computer or mobile phone.

How long is the course?

OET Ready is designed to run over a 12-week period for high-intermediate learners.

Need more work to build up language skills? A 24-week program is also available.

Can I join with others?

Joining OET Ready with a partner or small group makes the course more affordable. However, I do need to meet everyone in the group to make sure that the course length is right for everyone.
